Valentine's Day is all about love. The MBCA Niagara section members love their Mercedes Benz cars. On Sunday, February 10th, 11:30 A.M. we celebrated this holiday at the lovely East Aurora Country Club, 300 Girdle Road East Aurora, NY 14052. Thirty-five members a buffet brunch serving roast beef, turkey with gravy, caesar salad, mini-rolls, fruit, coffee, juices, scrambled eggs, home fries, french toast, sausage, bacon, maple syrup, pastries, and desserts. Our club always enjoys a reason to socialize and enjoy our friendships.
On Sunday, February 3rd Houston section members and guest gathered to watch Super Bowl LIII in Kingwood featuring the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots.
Some club members came dressed in the colors of their favorite NFL teams even though most were not one of the teams playing that evening.
Before the game started everyone picked squares on the Super Bowl pool to win give-a-ways at the end of each quarter.
There was lots of food, drinks, and snacks for all. Many brought appetizers and their favorite drinks to share with others. As the game started we settled in to watch the game from one of several large-screen televisions including one location on the back patio that was projected on a large 9-foot by 9-foot screen.
During half time we refilled on snacks and drinks before enjoying the half time show and playing a game of Super Bowl trivia. Overall everyone had a great time and nobody left hungry.

RENNtech has become the premier Mercedes-Benz specialist and Hartmut Feyhl himself is regarded by many as USA’s foremost authority in Mercedes tuning. His vast experience comes from 12 years spent at AMG Germany before serving as the North American division's Technical Director. Prior to the tuning company’s merger with Mercedes-Benz in 1999, by the request of AMG Germany, Feyhl branched out on his own to start RENNtech and service the existing AMG North America customers.
Performance without compromise. This is the foundation upon which we have built our reputation. Established in 1989 by Hartmut Feyhl, RENNtech has evolved and grown from servicing AMG’s customers into the foremost authority on tuning and customizing AMGs and Mer-cedes-Benz. RENNtech also offers tuning solutions for Porsche, Audi, and Bentley vehicles, along with other European luxury cars.
Over the years, we have developed high-performance products for virtually all Mercedes-Benz AMG vehicles. Some of the most notable among these are the 200 mph RENNtech E7.4RS (which claimed ‘Fastest Sedan in the World’ honors by Car and Driver Magazine in 1996) and the more recent 945 LB-FT 5.5L V8 Biturbo RENNtech R3+ Monster. Each of these vehicles is just a sampling of what RENNtech has achieved, featuring extreme performance, upgraded aesthetics, and a fit and finish that rivals factory vehicles.
A wonderful Road Trip to and from Amelia Island, with details provided by member Peter Blackford.
We leave with a caravan from Ft Myers on Thursday morning and drive to the Tampa area. After a Museum tour, we have lunch and then spend that night in Gainesville. Friday morning we get together and drive up to Amelia where we have motel rooms in Jacksonville. On Sunday, after the Show, we gather in Vilano Beach, have dinner and spend the night. Monday finds us touring the St. Augustine area and then head back down home!
For all those joining us on the "2019 Return to Amelia" (and any others interested), here are the final details: 3/7 (Thursday) Gather at I-75 exit 141 - Cracker Barrel - for breakfast, and prepare for departure at 9:00 AM sharp. Maps/directions will be provided to all. IMPORTANT: please confirm participation via email to priuspete@gmail.com NOW so we can have the right number of maps printed, as well as gather the final list for Friday dinner, etc.. We will proceed north via I-75, I-275 (TOLL for the bridge - bring your speed pass) to arrive at Tampa Bay Auto Museum prior to 11 AM, when our tour will begin (it's a 117 mile run - no stops anticipated). We will be greeted by the owner of the collection (who will then depart with his family, as they always show cars at Amelia on Sunday), and enjoy cars within the theme of "Cars of the '30s and Front Wheel Drive". Yes, there are a couple of Mercedes there, and also the oldest designed self-propelled vehicle! After our tour, we will proceed a short distance to lunch at BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse (they brew good rootbeer too) for lunch. Sandy & I have eaten there, and they offer a nicely varied menu which should satisfy all. From lunch, we will drive another two hours north to our evening accommodations at the Hilton Garden Inn, Gainsville. Hopefully, you have your room reserved under our block - if not, please contact me soon! On Friday morning we will depart (with directions in hand) "on our own" since some may want to arrive early to preview auctions, others may make a more leisurely drive and go directly to the DoubleTree Jacksonville Airport hotel. The cutoff date for our block & special rate is February 22. Please advise if you have made a reservation, so I can review the full list with the hotel to be certain everyone is getting the best rate - i.e., we need a final 'rooming list'! Our SWFL MBCA dinner will be at the DoubleTree (order off the menu), at 6:30 PM to give a little time for those who went up to the island to return. Saturday morning, those participating in the "Cars & Coffee" show will leave early (don't forget your field pass!), and the rest will travel a bit later to enjoy the free casual concours. Parking (unless you have a special arrangement) is best done at the Amelia Island Airport where shuttle buses will take you to the gate - and the same on Sunday. Also on Friday/Saturday, all should pick up their Sunday tickets at Will-Call in the Ritz (which you should have purchased online at www.ameliaconcours.org ). Just the basic Sunday ticket is all you will need. Sunday, pack your bags and check out of the DoubleTree & drive up to the Island once again for one of the top Concours events in the world. Due to parking and individual preference, we will not attempt to drive in a group to or following the Sunday concours; but when you have seen it all, proceed down the coast (using the Mayport ferry if you wish, or the longer/faster highway) to the Hampton Inn Vilano Beach. There, we will gather for a short drive or walk to dinner. Monday, some plan to tour historic St. Augustine, others will proceed back to SWFL at their own pace. No special activities that day, just enjoy the drive!
Any questions, please email me ( priuspete@gmail.com ).
Fashioning Art from Paper presents the full breadth of Isabelle de Borchgrave’s exploration of historical costume through the artful folding, crumpling, painting and sculpting of paper. From masterful recreations of elaborate Renaissance gowns to whimsical costumes from the Ballet Russes, de Borchgrave’s breathtaking, life-size works have been featured in major exhibitions around the world.
The exhibition celebrates the diversity of de Borchgrave’s work since the mid-1990s, including pieces from Papiers à la Mode, a survey of 300 years of fashion history presented by The Baker Museum in 2013; her Splendors of the Medici series exploring the Italian Renaissance costumes depicted in contemporaneous paintings; and her most recent work, Les Ballet Russes, which dovetails perfectly with the Naples Philharmonic’s performances of Stravinsky’s Pulcinella and The Firebird. Many of the costume designs represented in Les Ballet Russes were fashioned by artists like Picasso, Bakst and Matisse.
In addition, organizing partner Frick Art and Historical Center commissioned de Borchgrave to create a gown inspired by a painting from Peter Paul Rubens, Portrait of Charlotte-Marguerite de Montmorency, Princess of Condé, from ca. 1610. Both the dress and the original Rubens portrait will be on view at Artis—Naples.
Exhibition organized by Artis—Naples, The Baker Museum; the Frick Art and Historical Center, Pittsburgh; the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Memphis; the Oklahoma City Museum; and the Society of the Four Arts, Palm Beach.
